Jahlil Yuzell Witt (born October 16, 1993) known professionally as Souf Papa. Born in Newark, NJ and raised in Prince St Projects , an uprise housing projects , Souf was taken away from his family and thrown in the system — after years of home hopping from family to family he was eventually. raised in HINESVILLE , GA near Savannah . He currently resides in Castleberry/Mechanicville Zone 3 neighborhood.
What makes you different as a person and as an artist?
What makes me different is my ability to adapt. One of my mentors ( Dr Lucas ) once said that is one of the most powerful assets to have , being able to adapt to adversity. One may not be able to run jump or speak a certain language but the ability to think and adapt can create possibilities.
In addition my story is not about the come up but about overcoming . Many rappers or artist just talk about being from the hood , or starting from the bottom . I don’t knock it becuase everyone has a story . However , my story is one that represents overcoming obstacles, back against the wall and persevering by choosing routes others have not chose before . For example my adopted mom died in 2nd grade ( before 9/11 ) my biological mother died 2 years later.
