Shy Nelson, also known as Mad Mac’, is a native of Helena, Arkansas, who has found solace and passion in music. Having been introduced to music at a young age by his mother, Shy’s musical journey began with private piano lessons. He later joined his high school band, where he played the trumpet for three years and served as the head drum major during his senior year.

Seeking to further his music career, Shy enrolled at Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale, Mississippi, from 2018 to 2020. During his time there, he not only played the trumpet but also assumed the role of section leader. In 2020, Shy earned an Associate’s Degree in Music Education. Although he took a two-year hiatus to explore other interests, Shy realized that his true passion lay in music, prompting him to return to college in 2022 to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Sound Recording Technology. Currently a senior at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Shy is set to graduate in May 2023.

Shy’s versatility in music sets him apart from others. While he doesn’t consider himself an artist, he identifies as an entertainer. His love for music encompasses various aspects, including songwriting, DJing, playing instruments, and producing. Shy’s passion for music flows naturally through his veins. Looking ahead, he plans to expand his talents within the music industry over the next five years.

Shy’s vision for the future involves establishing collaborations, networking with fellow entertainers, and transforming his brand, Mad Mac Ent’, into not just a label but a comprehensive entertainment service. Additionally, he aims to create a platform for others, amplifying the voices of individuals who often go unheard. Inspired by his own experiences, Shy dreams of opening a Fine Arts institute to nurture the talents of the next generation.

Having grown up in a poverty-stricken area, Shy acknowledges that music has kept him grounded and provided an outlet for his emotions. Music has been a guiding light, even during his darkest moments, such as the passing of his great-grandmother in 2014. The intrinsic value of art holds more significance for Shy than material possessions ever could. His artistic expression, whether through his tone, lyrics, or flow during recordings, conveys a deep love for music. When DJing or performing, Shy’s energy elevates the atmosphere, leaving a lasting impact on those who experience his music.

Shy aspires to inspire others and instill hope through his music. He aims to be remembered as an individual who bravely pursued an unconventional path, bringing diversity and uniqueness to modern-day sound. Music, in many ways, has shaped Shy’s identity, and he acknowledges its continued influence as he embarks on his journey. Grateful for everything music has done for him, Shy’s appreciation and dedication to the art will be evident in his work for years to come.
