Pookie Alzado — The Modern Day Jack Napier of Hip Hop

What’s your full name and where are you from?
My full name is Daniel Justin Gordon & I’m from Hayward, California. My stage name is “Pookie Alzado”. Pookie was a family nickname that became my everyday name. Alzado was a football player for the at the time Los Angeles Raiders. He was known for his intensity and being a savage on and off the field. That’s how I am when I’m doing music and when I’m not. I put Alzado next to my name for that reason and because he’s a hero.
What makes you different as a person?
Everybody is different in some way. I’m lucky to even be friends with people like minded as I. That being said, my work ethic is ridiculous. I feel like a madman after every song I’ve made because I know it’s gold. I know if my music came across the right person’s ears, I would be flown to meet them the following day to talk about the future. Some people think I’m crazy, some people think I’m weird and some people think I’m a genius, but all those opinions mean nothing to me because I am nowhere near satisfied where I’m at in my career. If anything, I’m a peon. I am confident enough though to where if you put me in a room with the greatest rappers today that are still alive and they told me to spit, they’d hear a type of flow they’ve never heard before that’s not whack. I’m one of a kind. I’ve never been the type to care about people’s opinions, but I respect the OGs I grew up on and would listen to them cuss me out in my face if they felt some type of way. If they swing that’s a different story obviously I’m not a punk, but that’s how I’m different because I can take criticism and be better than what I was before. It just motivates me.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years, I’ll be 30. This is a young man’s game. You either make it, or you go down swinging. I’ve never been the type to strike out. I want this more than anything. In 5 years I see myself in a house and not a homeless shelter. I’ve lived in hotels. I lived in the projects while working full time & would come home every night to my apartment filled with cockroaches and bed bugs. I got my kids out of there as fast as I could and told them they’d never have to go through that again. I felt like I failed as a parent. I got out of that situation though and now I’m about to be a home owner next year. I see myself in my home living comfortably with my wife, kids, a wall of records and signed by a top record label. If it takes longer than 5 years, it does. I don’t think it will though. Not with my mentality.
