Must Watch, Los Angeles Rapper Addonnis drops sexually fluid Music video for his single “Runway”
What’s your full name and where are you from?
My full name is Marcus Boyd, artist name Addonnis, and I am from Toledo, Ohio
Tell us a little about your Music:
I am an independent hip hop artist, songwriter, and also a pharmacist. I moved to Los Angeles, California in 2016 to pursue my dreams in the music industry. My style of hip hop is lyrical and punchlines. I am versatile songwriter in many genres of music ranging from pop, R&B, and Hip Hop. My latest single “Runway” is a fresh take on contemporary pop with a hint of funk/soul music. The art of versatility mastered, as I sing on the first verse and hook, then rap the second and third verse. I wanted to make a song that was light and fun that could brighten everyone’s mood. With the music video, I wanted to tell a literal interpretation of the story from my descriptive lyrics and bring about a world of sexual fluidity. I wanted everyone to feel represented with “Runway” whether, Straight, Gay, or Bisexual. There are so many different types of beauty and I wanted that to be showcased in the best light, which I believe “Runway” achieved.
What makes you different as a person and also what separates you from the rest of your peers in your industry?
What makes me different as a person, is that I am authentic in my true character and nature. I’m very genuine and own who I am in every aspect of my life. What you see is what you get. No matter if I’m on the mic rapping or singing, in social settings with my peers, or when I’m working as a pharmacist in the medical industry; I am the same kind, free spirited, and fun person.
What separates me from the rest of my peers in the music/entertainment industry, is my talent and versatility. When it comes to my talent, I write all my raps and songs, including the hooks. I don’t have a team of writers like most other artists. I develop all of my bars, cadence, deliveries, flows, key selections, and song arrangements on my own. When it comes to versatility, I can do any kind of record. From hardcore hip hop songs like my freestyles, to fun club songs like my single “Strike A Pose”. From lyrical braggadocio up temp records like my first single “Level Up” to light pop records like “Runway”. No matter the genre, I remain authentic in my artistry. I am also highly educated, I graduated from Ohio Northern University with my Doctor of Pharmacy in 2014. I’ve always been very witty and intelligent which is why I have such a nag for clever punchlines and metaphors. I feel like the art of writing a mainstream song with clever lyrics has been lost in the rap game, and I am bringing that back.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years, I see myself with both a music and beauty empire. I hope to be on a world tour for my fourth or fifth studio album, performing hits from catalog to all of my fans. I would also like to start a label for other eclectic, diverse artists such as myself. I want to give them opportunities to showcase their unique talents to the world. I’d also like to be married and have a nice home with my partner.
What legacy do you wish to leave behind?
The legacy I wish to leave behind is one of bravery, inspiration, and talent. I want people to look at the art I’ve created and feel emboldened to own who they are and become the greatest version of themselves. I want to break down barriers and open many doors that will allow generations of uniquely talented individuals to shine. I want to leave a catalog of great music that all audiences will enjoy. I want to have showcased greatness and black excellence in the modern world.
That one can actually do anything that they put their mind to and find success even if they don’t necessarily fit the mold of society.
