Why do you love music?
I love how music can connect people from all walks of life. I love how music can change your mood or even save your life. I love how music speaks to us all in a different way and how it’s a universal language. Even if you don’t know the words to a song or understand the context behind it, you can feel the energy through the vibrations of the tone and relate to that feeling. It’s a special way of keeping us all connected. It’s poetry and a form of expression that is so healing.
What makes you different as a music artist?
I come from a mixed race background, so growing up I sort of felt like an outcast. I didn’t really feel like I could relate with people, so I would put headphones on and find music to alleviate that sense of loneliness. It turned out to be sort of a saving grace though, because I was exposed to so many different musical influences just from curiosity. From Ice Cube to Led Zeppelin to Janis Joplin to Madonna to Eartha Kitt to Michael Jackson, these artists became like my family.
