Kayla McKay — Meet the Canadian model that’s taking the US and international modeling markets by storm

Kayla what would you say is some of your greatest modeling achievements?
Some of my greatest modeling achievements would be some of the brands and campaigns that I was chosen to. perform as a top model like A’gaci , Very J , Michael Costello and my several Hue Gloss and N03 campaigns.
Also, some of my work has been published in popular publications that really brought me to international heights were Vogue UK, Elle Canada, Maxim Mexico, and Avant Magazine and so many more.

Kayla, you’ve done it all print, editorials, catalogs, etc. What’s one of your favourite jobs?
Oo that’s a tough one. I love shooting skin care, it’s just so clean and beautiful. For instance when I was chosen to do a campaign for higher education skin care. They have products that are tapered towards high school and college ages. In high school I had the worst skin, and all the products were so harsh, and made for older skin types. So I loved being a part of a campaign that promotes products for sensitive developing skin. Because we all know high school can be hard. Clearing your skin shouldn’t be.
We heard you shot 2 international campaigns for Hue Gloss and N03, a famous Japanese hair care brand, how was that?
It was amazing. I loved working with them and am so happy that I’ve had them as a repeat client. The ads were all over social media and in the Japanese market. I have yet to go to Japan, but I’ve seen my face and hair all over their social media and website in the US, and it looked amazing.
How long have you been modeling for?
I’ve been modeling for 6 years.

How old were you when you were signed with your first overseas agency?
I was 15. I was with Next Models Canada at the time and they signed me to FMI Taiwan.
Only 15 how was that, was it scary?
My family was super supportive, and my mom came with me for a while. I would work 7–7 and then had 4 hours of high school online after.
What are some of your more well-known E-commerce brands that you’ve shot for?
I’ve shot with A’gaci an amazing trendy lifestyle clothing brand, that I’ve worked with almost biweekly for the last 2 years. Also Oscar Rossa, a silky sleepwear brand, Very J a top young adult brand and so many others.

We heard you have graced the Runway. What shows have you walked in and who are some of the more noticeable designers that you’ve walked for?
I walked In Miami swim week, LA fashion week, Vancouver Fashion week, Art Hearts, and Palm Springs fashion week. For Art Hearts fashion show I was blessed to walk for the global high fashion designer Michael Costello. For Miami Swim week I walked for the international bathing suit designer, Sauvage. As well as for LA Fashion weeks incredible gown designer Fiamila. Wow, you are so young and have already established such a successful career.

What advice can you offer aspiring models?
My advice that I can offer aspiring models are. It’s not all glitz and glamour, it’s very hard work and doesn’t happen over night. Have saving saved up as it will take awhile for your face to be known, and for you to be booking jobs. Especially if your a foreign model like me. Never give up , and never let anyone tell you your not tall enough , or your not skinny enough. Because beauty standards have changed now a days. You don’t have to be the tallest in the room anymore, or the skinniest. Show your personality, practise your posing in front of the mirror, and be confident. Your personality and work ethic will be the thing that ultimately will sway the casting directors decision in the end.
