Jenn DeSantis is an American pianist, singer, and songwriter born and raised in the heart of Pennsylvania in a small town called Danville. Some of her biggest influences in the music industry include Queen, Fiona Apple, David Bowie, Elton John, Lady GaGa, Ani DiFranco, and Tame Impala. Each of these artists have something in common, she states. They stay true to who they are. Her vocal style is heavily influenced by Freddie Mercury and Fiona Apple. The lyrics to her songs are similar to Ani DiFranco in how she writes. She will have the melody in her head, and the lyrics come later. She is an excellent story-teller and she really looks up to lyricists who know how to give their best visual story of each song. You can feel and hear the emotion behind what she is singing. The performing of the song is where the song really builds into something even deeper, growing to become the best version of itself. All of these artists have power on stage, a beautiful presence. She’s so inspired by it.
Lastly, her piano playing has been known to resemble Elton. She uses big power chords, yet flowy note patterns to give her songs a classical elegance. Tame Impala influences her experimental synth work and how she perform as a multi instrumentalist on stage. These artists are bold by being different, standing out in a crowd.
