Jai Emm — Queens, NY’s new superstar songstress?

What’s your full name and where are you from?
Janelle Mitchell is an American music artist and songwriter from Queens, NY.
Tell us a little about your business
I’m a singer, songwriter and creative entrepreneur. I offer my energy to create a sonic experience of raw and honest emotions. My debut EP, Aurora Borealis combined soothing and sensual vibes with undeniable musicianship and full expression. Aurora Borealis tackles topics of love, sex, drugs, manipulation and it’s relevance to self progression. My melodies are pure and intentional manifestations to complement my amazing production selections. My lyrical content is engaging yet complex with the full message revealed only with an open ear. My words are straight from my soul and a necessary emotional outlet. As a mental health advocate, I facilitate songwriting seminars that encourage music as a therapy. I inspire others to share their truths, self examine and progress through flaws and imperfections.

What makes you different as a person and also what separates you from the rest of your peers in your industry?
I’m multifaceted. I’m an artist, a teacher, event curator, studio manager, set designer, wine sommelier and food connoisseur. I love to succeed at new things and inspire others to live everything you want out of life and to always learn. Greatness is a state of mind.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years, anything could happen. I’ll be a more established singer and songwriter with a couple of plaques and a Grammy or 5. I’ll be an actress, a tv show producer, an app developer and more. As I grow, I’ll find new interests to develop.
What legacy do you wish to leave behind?
I want to leave a legacy of freedom. My upcoming project, “Laissez Faire”, promotes the idea that you succeed better without interference. Having confidence in your goals is the key to making it happen. Being yourself, most times, means being unapologetically, different, and validating yourself despite what others contribute to the situation.
