What’s your full name and where are you from?
Janderlyn ‘J E’ White, I am from Saint Petersburg, Florida
Tell us a little about your business:
I am a singer, songwriter. I own J E White Music Group, Peculiar Encounter, and Royally Peculiar Clothing line. J E White Music group started as a way to protect myself and my music as I was gaining opportunities to collaborate with people in the industry. Recently it has started to evolve into a full service music company that offers vocal coaching, artist development, back ground vocalists, musicians, production, and songwriting to name a few of our services. Royally Peculiar clothing line is in the works and set to launch Spring 2021 it is a t-shirt line with spiritual inspiration. Peculiar Encounter is a musical event that brings together all different types of artists and forms of musical expression in a worship setting.
What makes you different as a person and also what separates you from the rest of your peers in your industry?
I am deliberate about the things that I have immense love for. I have spent years crafting my sound. I left the idea of fitting in and trying to be creative and artistic by sounding like someone else. The music that I was exposed to at a young age has helped me to craft a sound that most people who know me well can say is my own. I’m open and honest about what I’ve been through and what I have seen as a musician. My character is what sets me apart. I am honest to a fault, and extremely passionate about music and education. This industry is to be studied and learned at all times because things are always changing and that is what sets me apart. I’m not a machine and I don’t treat anyone else that way. I don’t expect what I wouldn’t be willing to give. I work hard, and push through when I don’t want to. I choose my battles wisely and more often than not I choose to live to fight another day, rather than losing myself going back and forth with someone who doesn’t mean me well anyway.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Stellar, Grammy nominated. Booked through 2030. In the next five years I see myself running my companies, and traveling for music opportunities full time. Helping artists to find themselves through music and musical expression on the stage. A household name the world over for my contributions through music, philanthropy and education. I want to turn my passions into the fuel that keeps me afloat as I conquer my dreams and help others on a path to their goals. I hope to be a lounge/restaurant owner in the next five years as well which will allow me to create a platform for artists to do what they love.
What legacy do you wish to leave behind?
Beyond money, wealth, and security for my family. The five ways I want to leave a legacy are:
- . To support the people and causes that are important to me.
- 2. Be a mentor to others
- 3. Share my blessings with others
- 4. Inspire others to pursue their passions in a way that allows them to create and leave a legacy of their own.
- 5. Have a positive impact on the people I’ve met throughout my life
